Thunderbird

To configure Thunderbird to send and receive email using our servers via POP and SMTP over SSL/TLS, please follow the steps below. Please replace:

 

Attentionusername@example.com with your email address
example-server.com with your server’s host name (you can find your server’s host name listed in the upper left corner of your Control Panel)

IMPORTANT: Autoconfig (automatic email configuration) will be available for your Thunderbird only if the hostname autoconfig.example.com resolves to the IP address of the server where your account is hosted with us. The subdomain itself must not exist in the Subdomains section of the hosting Control Panel.

1. Open Thunderbird.

2. Choose “Tools” -> “Account Settings”.

3. Click “Account Actions” -> “Add Mail Account…”

4. In the “Your Name” field you should enter the name you would like to appear on the messages you send. Enter your email address username@example.com in the “Email address” field. Enter your mail password in the “Password” field. Mark the “Remember password” checkbox.

Click on the “Continue” button.

5. Thunderbird is going to perform some checks. Please change the mail protocol from IMAP to POP3. When the second test is complete, click “Done”.

AttentionYou may miss some e-mail messages if you use POP3 to access a mailbox that has SpamAssassin enabled for it. Please read our Possible issues when using POP3 and SpamAssassin article for more information.

6. Click “Tools” -> “Account Settings” -> “Server Settings” -> “Advanced”.

7. In the “IMAP server directory” field enter the following value in capital letters: INBOX

4. In the “Your Name” field you should enter the name you would like to appear on the messages you send. Enter your email address user@example.com in the “Email address” field. Enter your mail password in the “Password” field. Mark the “Remember password” check-box.

Click on the “Continue” button.

5. Thunderbird is going to perform some checks (this might take some time). Click “Manual config” when they are complete.

6. Make sure that the Incoming mail server is set to “POP3”.

Change the incoming mail server to “mail.your_server.com”.

Change the port for the incoming server to 995.

Change “STARTTLS” to “SSL/TLS” for the incoming server.

Change the outgoing mail server to “mail.your_server.com”.

Be sure to list your full email address as username for the outgoing email server.

Click “Done”.

7. Click “Re-test” to have Thunderbird verify your settings again. Click “Done” when the test is complete.

4. In the field “Your name”, you should enter the name you would like to appear on your outgoing messages. Enter your email address in the “Email address” field. In the”Password” field, you should enter the password for your mailbox. Mark the “Remember password” checkbox.

Click on the “Configure manually…” button to continue with the configuration.

5. Make sure that the Incoming mail server is set to “IMAP”.

Update “Username” to match your mail address.

Change the incoming mail server to “mail.your_server.com”.

Change the port for the incoming server to 993.

Change “STARTTLS” to “SSL/TLS” for the incoming server.

Change the outgoing mail server to “mail.your_server.com”.

The port for the outgoing server should be 587.

Make sure that “STARTTLS” is selected for the SSL field.

Change the Authentication dropdown to “Normal password”.

Click “Re-test”. Thunderbird will test your settings again and when the test is complete, click “Done”.

6. Click “Tools” -> “Account Settings” -> “Server Settings” -> “Advanced”.

7. In the “IMAP server directory” field enter the following value in capital letters: INBOX

Click on “OK”.
